SHUM is a team of new media artists working internationally with physical art objects, installations and digital content.

Born out of a decade-long friendship, Andrey Gorlachev (b. 1994, new media artist) and Alexander Zhiganov (b. 1998, creative producer) initiated the team's journey in January 2023, and together with 11 like-minded creators, they form the core of SHUM.

THE ROCK OF HISTORY
PROJECTION MAPPING 2026


Our first project in the Emirates! 🇦🇪

Based on research from the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, we turned the 293-meter rock at Al Rafisah Dam into a living digital archive. The mountain surface changes its state more than 10 times, transforming into ancient amphorae, a shadow theatre and the strict geometry of Islamic patterns.

In the finale, the scale of history shifts into the cosmic realm through an Arabic astrolabe, turning ancient petroglyphs into constellations — a symbol of the unbroken connection between generations.
